NMC Scholarships

Nebraska Methodist College assists students by providing the following types of scholarships: 

  • Upfront Merit Scholarships — based solely on previous academic performance. 
  • Academic and Leadership Scholarships — based on academic performance, leadership potential demonstrated by participation in activities outside the academic setting and service to the community (separate application required).
  • Membership Scholarships — based on church, club or honor association membership, or relation to an NMC alumnus

Methodist Health System Scholarships

The Methodist Health System provides benefits to their employees, including scholarships for college. These opportunities are only available for Health System employees.

Scott Scholars

The Scott Scholars Program provides a renewable award in the amount of tuition and fees available to incoming students seeking a Bachelor of Science in nursing through NMC’s traditional nursing program. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Complete Scott Scholars Application
  • 3.2 cumulative GPA required
  • Success in math and science coursework
  • Select group of candidates will be invited to participate in an interview
  • Available to Traditional BSN students applying to the Fall term

Becker Presidential Scholarship

The Becker Presidential Scholarship provides an award of $9,000 a year for 4 years to a first-time first-year student seeking a bachelor's degree. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA. 

In order to renew, the recipient must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.

Wischmeier Dean's Scholarship

The Wischmeier Dean's Scholarship provides an award of $6,000 a year for 4 years to a first-time first-year student seeking a bachelor's degree in nursing. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.
 
In order to renew, the recipient must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.

Excellence in Allied Health Scholarship

The Excellence in Allied Health Scholarship provides an award of $6,000 a year for 2 or 4 years to a first-time first-year student seeking an associate or bachelor's degree in an allied health field. Applicants must have a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA. (Not available to students in Surgical Technology program due to reduced tuition rate.)
 
In order to renew, the recipient must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.

Kathleen Montgomery Memorial ACE Scholarship

The Kathleen Montgomery Memorial ACE Scholarship provides an award of $7,500 for the 12 months of the program. A selected number of scholarships will be awarded each year to ABSN applicants who demonstrate academic merit or financial need (as determined by the FAFSA application).

HOSA Leadership Scholarship

The HOSA Leadership Scholarship provides a one-time award of $1,000 for active members of a high school HOSA chapter. Verification required.

NMC Legacy Grant

The NMC Legacy Grant provides a one-time award of $2,000 to the following:
 
  • Graduates of an NMC degree program
  • Siblings of a current NMC student
  • Sibling or dependent child of an alumnus of Nebraska Methodist College.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Scholarship provides a one-time award of $1,000 for initiated PTK members. Documentation of membership is required.

Tuition Exchange

Council of Independent Colleges—Tuition Exchange Program
The scholarship is awarded to students entering Nebraska Methodist College under the Council of Independent Colleges—Tuition Exchange Program. This scholarship is applicable to dependents, spouses or employees from participating CIC colleges and universities. Please contact the TEP Liaison at your home institution for more information. 

National Tuition Exchange Program
This scholarship is awarded to students entering Nebraska Methodist College under the National Tuition Exchange Program. This scholarship is applicable to dependents of employees from other participating colleges and universities. United Methodist Church Member Award

The United Methodist Church Member Award provides a one-time grant of $1,000 for members of the United Methodist Church. Documentation of active membership is required.

Nebraska Career Scholarship

The Nebraska Career Scholarship is a collaboration between the Nebraska Department of Economic Development and eligible private nonprofit postsecondary institutions. This program provides scholarships to students pursuing degrees in programs of study leading to high wage, high skill and high demand careers.
 
Funding of the Nebraska Career Scholarship is based on state allocations. Recipients will be awarded once the College is notified of allocation amounts, this can take place as late as July.
 
Application required.
Applicants must have an ACT score of 18 on file.
Applicants must have a FAFSA application on file by March 1, 2024

Diverse Nurse and Men in Nursing Education Faculty Scholars Program

Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) is currently offering a full tuition scholar program to diverse graduate nursing students who are underrepresented as nursing faculty and will teach as nursing faculty in NMC's undergraduate BSN Program after graduation. Applicants must be a nurse enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program focusing on nursing education at NMC.

Applicants must be a Registered Nurse (RN) enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program focusing on nursing education at NMC. Masters of Nursing (MSN) students must take the Nurse Educator Track, Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Doctorate of Health Care Education and Leadership (Ed.D) students must take EDD 694 Teaching, Learning and Instructional Methods and EDD 698 Curriculum Planning and Evaluation.

Additionally, applicants must commit to teaching 120 total credit hours. Each applicant must meet the following conditions:

  • Be of a diverse group in nursing and nursing education, meaning that applicants are underrepresented in the nursing profession relative to their numbers in the general population.
  • Be admitted to a qualifying program at NMC.
  • Be available for an interview once application and references are received
  • Sign a letter of commitment in which they pledge to teaching 120 credit hours in NMC’s undergraduate BSN Program (full-time, part-time or adjunct). If the teaching requirement is not fulfilled, recipient will be expected to reimburse NMC the accrued cost of tuition. The amount will be prorated depending on service.

The Diverse Nurse and Men in Nursing Education Faculty Scholars Program cannot be used in combination with the Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP).

Ruth Freed Leadership Scholarship

Benefit: A $9,000 scholarship to be used for tuition, fees, and supplies for Health System employees seeking a Masters, DNP, Ed.D. or Ph.D. degree.

Eligibility: Registered Nurses or supervisory personnel working in Methodist Health System for a minimum of 20 hours per week for the past two years. Continuing interest in Nebraska Methodist Health System and the nursing profession.

Selection criteria include patient focus, honor and respect, excellence, teamwork, and service to community.

Deadline: Online applications available January through March for the upcoming academic year. Applications are due at the beginning of April. Scholarship recipients will be notified in May.

Carolyn Scott “Spirit of Excellence” Scholarship

Employee Development Grant

The Employee Development Grant (EDG) provides up to $1,600 per academic year for eligible Methodist Health System employees who are enrolled in a degree or certificate program of study at NMC.  The employee must have been employed at MHS for a minimum of two years, must be an employee in good standing, and must work a minimum of 16 hours a week. 

The application is available on the benefits page of the MHS intranet.  The completed application must be signed by the employee, supervisor, and HR representative, and it must be submitted to the NMC Financial Aid Office by the appropriate deadline:

Fall - August 1

Spring - December 1

Summer - May 1

Employee, Spouse, Dependent Discount Program

Employees of Methodist Health System may be eligible for a 20% tuition discount for certain academic degree and certificate programs at Nebraska Methodist College (NMC). This discount may also be extended to employee’s legal spouse and eligible children. Courses taken for audit, continuing education, professional education, RN to BSN and the accelerated nursing degree program are not eligible. The discount applies to tuition only.

Tuition Assistance Program

The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) provides up to $2,000 a year for employees who have worked at least six months, at a minimum of 16 hours prior to the beginning of the semester or term. The actual amount is limited to tuition costs of a course or degree program that is directly related to the employee's current position or promotion within MHS.

Academy Programs

The Methodist Health System Academy Program provides tuition coverage for MHS employees enrolled in specific programs (see below). This coverage is specifically designated for tuition and does not include funding for textbooks or any other associated fees. In exchange for coverage, employees must agree to the terms and conditions outlined in the Eligibility Guidelines.

MHS offers the Academy Program to employees upon acceptance to Nebraska Methodist College, completion of Academy selection form, approval through Human Resources and as Academy funding is available.

NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program

The NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program, administered by HRSA, is available for registered nurses (RNs), advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), and nursing faculty.

Applicants must work full-time in an eligible Critical Shortage Facility in a high need area, or in an accredited school of nursing.

NURSE Corps Scholarship Program

The NURSE Corps Scholarship Program, administered by HRSA, is available to students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate nursing program.

The scholarship assists with tuition, fees and other educational costs; in exchange, the recipient must work at an eligible facility upon graduation.

To apply, students must be free from an existing service agreement.
