Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN)
Refresher Online Degree Program

The LPN Refresher certificate program at Nebraska Methodist College is designed for licensed practical nurses (LPNs) who would like to reinstate, reactivate or renew their nursing careers.  The LPN Refresher curriculum combines online course work with an outpatient clinical element and meets the requirements for a refresher course as outlined by the Nebraska Board of Nursing (Title 172 NAC 101-004.06).

What's more, the LPN Refresher program is divided into two parts:  an online, self-paced course and a comprehensive clinical component.  This unique course delivery gives you the flexibility to extend your period of certificate completion to a time frame that fits your goals and needs.  There is no better way for nurses to quickly and conveniently get back to the patient bedside than the LPN Refresher course from Nebraska Methodist College.

Successful Completion Requirements

1) Online Didactic Course Component:

Successful completion is required of each module prior to advancing to the next module. Each student will have two attempts to receive an 80% on each module post test. Should the student not receive a passing score in two attempts, one-on-one remediation will be required at the cost of the student ($30/hr). Once the re-mediating instructor is satisfied the student has successfully completed the module, the student will be allowed to move on to the next module.

If a student is unable to complete modules 1-5, AND the IV therapy skills course, he/she will not be allowed to continue on to the clinical component of the course. No exceptions will be made.

In addition, students are required to complete American Heart Association Basic Life Support Online Course and an online orientation to Methodist physician’s clinics.  Students must successfully complete both prior to advancing to clinical.

2) Clinical Course Component:

Day 1: BLS Skills Test and Nursing Arts Skills Lab
Successful completion of the BLS Skills Test must be confirmed by our AHA Program Coordinator who will issue a BLS/CPR card to the student.  Students will be required to successfully demonstrate the nursing skills listed in Module 6 prior to hospital clinical. In addition, students must successfully complete the math exam with a score of 80% or greater prior to advancing to hospital clinical. Should the student not receive a passing score on the math exam or skills demonstration, one-on-one remediation will be required at the cost of the student ($30/hr).  He or she will have to reschedule to another clinical date, resulting in a change fee of $350.

After day 1: 24 hours total scheduled clinical with Methodist Physicians Clinic: Successful completion of the clinical component will be confirmed by preceptor using a clinical evaluation tool.  Should the student receive an unsatisfactory evaluation, the student may be required to remediate one-on-one with a faculty member at the cost of the student ($30/hr).

Refund/Cancellation Policy

Non-participation does not relieve the student from obligation to pay for the course.  No refund will be issued to those who do not successfully complete the requirements or do not attempt to complete the requirements.

No refunds will be issued once students have been given access to the course.  Should a student choose to drop prior to being given access, a request must be submitted in writing.  Students will be refunded 70% of the full tuition amount.

If a student requires remediation, all fees must be paid prior to students receiving a course completion certificate.

Immunization Requirements

Proof of immunizations must be submitted prior to signing up for clinical dates.  There will be no exceptions to this policy.  Proof of immunizations and health form can be faxed directly to our office (402) 354-7055. The health form will be sent in the welcome packet to accepted students.

Licensure Requirements

In order to participate in the Nebraska Methodist College LPN Refresher Course, participants must have been actively licensed as a Licensed practical nurse in the United States.  Individuals who have yet to pass the NCLEX examination are not eligible for this refresher course.  A participant with a license inactive for ten years or greater must undergo additional assessments prior to admission to the program. Please contact directly at (402) 354-7100

It is required for students without an active Nebraska nursing license to obtain a temporary nursing license to participate in clinical with Nebraska Methodist College.  Students must show proof of the *temporary license prior to signing up for clinical dates.

*Temporary licensure is obtained from the NE Department of Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure division, (402) 471-2666. Students must submit the Application for Reinstatement of Nursing License from Inactive or Lapsed Status.  To complete the application, you will need a letter of acceptance from Nebraska Methodist College.  This letter will be e-mailed to you once your application has been processed and approved and tuition has been paid.  The student is responsible for payment of all the necessary fees for the application.  Application fees are not included in the price of this course.

Students with an active, unexpired license, in the state of Nebraska or a compact state, must show proof of license prior to signing up for clinical dates.

Students seeking a reinstatement of a nursing license due to disciplinary action are eligible to reapply for licensure two years from the date of revocation.  It is strongly encouraged students contact the Department of Health and Human Services directly to discuss all required steps for reinstatement.

Once an application is submitted, the Department of Health and Human Service has up to 150 days to act on any submission. This is important as you must start and complete your LPN Refresher course within 6 months, or within the same calendar year.  If you are unable to obtain successful completion of the LPN Refresher course, including the clinical components,  in the same calendar year, you will be assessed a $350 non-refundable change fee to transfer your registration to the next calendar year.
