    Nurse Aides are pivotal components of the healthcare team. Typically, they function under the supervision of more senior medical staff within diverse healthcare establishments.

    Nurse aides work intimately with patients daily, delivering indispensable care like monitoring vital signs, prepping patient beds, and helping them with personal grooming routines. Additionally, they bolster doctors and nurses’ skills by engaging in fundamental medical procedures.

    Nebraska Methodist College, situated in Omaha, offers students a wide range of Nurse Aide classes tailored to cater to various needs. Among the prevalent choices are our four-week on-campus Nurse Aide training program and the six-week online hybrid Nurse Aide courses. Depending on learners’ preferences, we have other Nurse Aide courses that span between five to 16 weeks. Regardless of the course duration, the syllabus remains consistent. It’s advisable to register for our Nurse Aide classes a minimum of one week ahead of the commencement date.

     

    NA Salary

    Salaries for Nurse Aides in the US oscillate based on the workplace and individual experience, leading to a rewarding career. As of May 2024, the Bureau of Labor Statistics posited that the median remuneration for Nursing Assistants was $39,430 annually ($18.96 hourly). Projections indicate an average growth trajectory of 2% from 2024 to 2034.

    Armed with the right Nurse Aides training, Nurse Aides become adept and ready to serve in diverse medical environments such as:

    Nurse Aide (NA) Training Program Perks

    • The six-week hybrid NA courses are largely digital, requiring attendees to be on campus once a week for engaging instructional sessions.

    • The curriculum underscores comprehensive care for all patient categories. There’s a heightened focus on geriatric care – recognizing the physiological and psychological facets of aging, and steering patients towards holistic well-being at any age. Our program also offers free training, covering the cost of training, books, scrubs, and certification exams.

    • Upon wrapping up the NA training programs, qualified candidates can sit for the competency tests, aiming for a slot in the State of Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry.

    • Engage in pragmatic clinical sessions at neighboring long-term healthcare and rehabilitation hubs. We also provide information about local job openings, connecting candidates with potential employers in the area.

    • Flexibility in learning is a given with day, evening, and weekend schedules.

    NA Career Opportunities

    Our training program for NA's offers a stepping stone to a BSN for those who want to join the nursing field at the entry-level while they continue on in their nursing education. NMC also offers an accelerated BSN path that can be completed in as little as 12 months.

    Criteria

    • Minimum age of 16
    • Ability to read, write and speak English
    • Good physical health & ability to lift 50 lbs.
    • No history of abuse or neglect on your record
    • Complete health history form & provide proof of current immunizations. Form and immunization record must be brought to the first class. Reduced rate for immunizations received by Campus Health for students not up-to-date on vaccinations.

    Dress Requirements:

    • Students are required to have a watch with a second hand.
    • Scrubs may be required and may be a prescribed color/style.

    About the NA Course

    This course is a minimum of 76 hours of classroom, skills and competency training with or without hands-on clinical opportunities.

    Syllabus and course schedule are provided to the student on the first day of the course. Clinical opportunities are subject to availability.

    Participants are provided with content and hands-on experience which prepare them to sit for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services written and skills competency exams. No credits are offered for this program, but students will receive a certificate of completion.

    Tuition must be paid in full prior to the first day of class, payment plans are available on request. Students are responsible for purchasing the required materials. 

    Students must have all required materials on the first day of class, unless otherwise stated.

    Verifying Nurse Aide Training Certificate

    Nurse Aide completion status can be verified through an online search of individual state license registries. For example, you can access Nebraska’s Nurse Aide registry here.

    Nurse Aide Reactivation

    Individuals previously listed on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry who have lapsed or become inactive are eligible to reactivate their registration by successfully completing the written and clinical skills exams.

    Nebraska Methodist College is an approved provider of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services written and skills competency exams. Please verify eligibility prior to registering by calling, (402) 471-0537.

    Written Competency Exam (1 hour): $35*
    Skills Competency Exam (1 hour): $50*

    *Payment is required at the time of registration (no exceptions) and is non-refundable.

    Upon successful completion, NMC submits verification to Nebraska Department of Health and Human Service, Nursing and Nursing Support. Questions regarding the registry can be directed to (402) 471-0537. Registry status verification may also be done online.

    Preparation:

    Individuals recertifying need to prepare for both the written and skills exam to successfully pass both elements required for recertification. Options include studying materials from their previous NA class, reviewing and practicing required skills, and taking a refresher course.  Students must bring a state issued photo ID in order to participate in testing.
