TRIO Classic Upward Bound is a federally funded college preparation program through the U.S. Department of Education. NMC first received Upward Bound funding in 2007.
The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves: high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree.
The goal of NMC Upward Bound is to increase the rates at which participants from the Omaha area complete high school and enroll in and graduate from post-secondary education programs.
Upward Bound was developed as a result of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. Upward Bound is one of several federally funded TRiO programs currently funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act (HEA).
We serve 55 low-income and potential first-generation students who have an academic need for our program.
Burke High School and St. Luke United Methodist Church Teen Center.
In addition to the grade-specific college preparatory seminars, students are also required to attend one exploratory seminar each month. Seminars will be offered on a variety of days and times to meet the needs of all students. Students can elect to attend additional seminars, as desired.
