TRIO Student Support Services

The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program at Nebraska Methodist College is committed to fostering a student-centered learning environment, reflective of our core values of caring, excellence, holism, learning and respect. The program seeks to increase rates of academic achievement, retention and graduation for historically underrepresented students including those who are first generation, low income, or students with disabilities. By providing comprehensive and personalized services that draw on available resources from within and outside of the college, TRIO SSS empowers students to reach their full potential.

Program Benefits

  • Grants & Scholarships - SSS students are eligible to apply for $50,000 in scholarships only available to program participants .
  • Student Success Workshops - Group learning sessions focused on financial literacy, academic and community resources, stress management and more.
  • Career and Professional Development - Support in developing resumes, cover letters and mock interviewing. Program staff also provide advising for students interested in pursuing graduate school.
  • Financial Assistance - Support in completing the FAFSA, searching, and applying for scholarships, answering other financial aid questions and understanding loan repayment following graduation.
  • Academic Resources - Access to one-on-one academic coaching, paper writing assistance, program library including flashcards, textbooks and other materials to support student success and materials to support preparation for NCLEX/board exams.
  • Academic Advising - Help with course planning and access to priority registration
  • Individual Coach and Advocate - Individualized support and advocacy for personal and professional growth.
  • Other Benefits - Community study study space open to SSS students for studying and gathering, free printing, food pantry, scrub/book borrowing program,  and much more!


To qualify for SSS, you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen or national of the United States or meet residency requirements for federal student financial assistance
  • Currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment at NMC
  • Seeking a 4-year degree (bachelor's degree)
  • One or more of the following:
    • A first-generation college student (neither parent or guardian has a bachelor's degree)
    • Low-income (according to federal guidelines)
    • Have a documented (physical or learning) disability

Participant Requirements

  • Complete an SSS new student orientation in the summer or within 30 days of acceptance into to the program
  • Complete a midterm meeting. In total, complete at least 4 meetings with Achievement Specialist/Assistant Director per semester
  • Maintain regular participation and communication with TRIO SSS staff-at least 4 times per semester.
  • To be eligible for scholarships awarded by SSS, students must complete a financial literacy activity at least once per year.
