TRIO Student Support Services

The TRIO Student Support Services program at Nebraska Methodist College is committed to fostering a student-centered learning environment, reflective of our core values of caring, excellence, holism, learning and respect. The program seeks to increase rates of academic achievement, retention and graduation for historically underrepresented students including those who are first generation, low income, or students with disabilities. By providing comprehensive and personalized services that draw on available resources from within and outside of the college, TRIO SSS empowers students to reach their full potential.

Program Benefits

  • Grants & Scholarships - SSS students are eligible to apply for $50,000 in scholarships only available to program participants .
  • Student Success Seminars - Group learning opportunities focused on financial literacy, preparing for tests, stress reduction and more.
  • Career and Professional Development - Support in developing resumes, cover letters and mock interviewing. Program staff also provide advising for students interested in pursuing graduate school.
  • Financial Aid - Assistance in completing financial aid documents, searching for and applying for scholarships and answering other financial aid questions.
  • Academic Support - Access to one-on-one academic coaching, a writing coach only available to SSS students and a wealth of academic resources for courses and NCLEX/board prep.
  • Social and Cultural Events - Several opportunities to participate in free cultural experience including museum tours, musicals and more.
  • Individual Coach and Advocate - Individualized support and advocacy for personal and professional growth.
  • Other Benefits - Study space open just to SSS students, free printing, food pantry and scrub/book borrowing program.


To qualify for SSS, you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen or national of the United States or meet residency requirements for federal student financial assistance
  • Currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment at NMC
  • Seeking a 4-year degree (bachelor's degree)
  • One or more of the following:
    • A first-generation college student (neither parent or guardian has a bachelor's degree)
    • Low-income (according to federal guidelines)
    • Have a documented (physical or learning) disability

Participant Requirements

  • Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Attend an SSS Orientation as a new and returning student
  • Complete a needs assessment within 30 days of entering program
  • Complete a midterm meeting
  • In total, complete at least 4 meetings with Achievement Specialist/Assistant Director per semester
