English Language Proficiency Requirement

It is Nebraska Methodist College’s intent to set students up for success in the classroom and as future healthcare providers. Therefore, The English Proficiency Requirement applies to all individuals with educational records from outside of the United States or whose first language is not English, regardless of U.S. citizenship status or time spent in the United States.

English language proficiency for admission into Nebraska Methodist College can be demonstrated by any one of the following ways:

  • Successful completion of at least two year of high school (secondary) and high school diploma in the United States. Official transcript required.
  • Earned Associate’s or higher level degree at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university. Official transcript required.
  • U.S. General Educational Development (GED) Certificate with an English score of 165. Official test score report required.
  • English Proficiency Examination- Minimum Criteria- Official score report required:
    • TOEFL Test (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
      Information about TOEFL® may be obtained from:
      TOEFL® Services Educational Testing Service, P.O. Box 6151, Princeton, NJ 08541-6151, USA or at www.ets.org.

      TOEFL® Score Requirements – Scores are only valid from two years of the test date:
  • TOEFL iBT – minimum of 80 total score and 26 in speaking.
    • Preferred testing method.
  • TOEFL PBT – minimum of 550 total score and a score of 5.0 on the TWE® (Test of Written English) Students completing the TOEFL PBT must also complete the Test of Spoken English (TSE® ) and received a score of 50 or higher.
    • TOEFL PBT was discontinued in July 2017.
TOEFL® Score Requirements for the Accelerated Nursing Program (ABSN) – Scores are only valid from two years of the test date:
      • TOEFL iBT – minimum of 100 total score and 26 in speaking
      • TOEFL PBT – minimum of 600 total score and a score of 5.0 on the TWE® (Test of Written English) Students completing the TOEFL PBT must also complete the Test of Spoken English (TSE® ) and received a 21 score of 50 or higher. Note: The TOEFL CBT is no longer offered.
        • TOEFL PBT was discontinued in July 2017.
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

      • Internet Based Test IELTS- minimum overall score of 7.0 and minimum score of 7.0 on each sub-test.
