Federal COVID-19 Relief Funding

CARES Act (HEERF I)

On March 27, 2020, the federal government enacted the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES Act”). The CARES Act includes a Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (“HEERF”). A portion of HEERF funds must go directly to eligible students in the form of emergency financial aid grants for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the COVID-19 crisis (“HEERF Student Share Grant Funds”).  The following information is provided by NMC as information on eligibility and how to receive these funds as well as required by the Department of Education (“ED”) in order to comply with the reporting requirements under the CARES Act.

CRRSAA: Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF II)

NMC has received funding through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) II authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), enacted on December 27, 2020. The new law has some similarities and important differences from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) (P.L. 116–136) enacted on March 27, 2020. We will use the student portion of the funds and some of the institution portion of the funds to provide direct emergency aid to students whose lives and educations have been disrupted by the coronavirus outbreak.

**UPDATE: As of 4/26/21, all HEERF-II funds are now exhausted and the application for these relief funds is now closed. Please see Dr. Carlson's announcement above for more information.**

American Rescue Plan (HEERF III)

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) is authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Public Law 117-2, signed into law on March 11, 2021, providing $39.6 billion in support to institutions of higher education to serve students and ensure learning continues during the COVID-19 pandemic. ARP funds are in addition to funds authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), Public Law 116-260 and the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Public Law 116-136. Emergency funds available to institutions and their students under all emergency funds total $76.2 billion.

**Note: There will not be any HEERF III student emergency funding disbursements during the week of August 16 - 20 and August 23 - 27.  Any applications received for funding will be processed the week of August 30 with disbursements by Friday, September 3.
