General Background

Dr. Tara Whitmire is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse-Nurse Practitioner. She has experience in critical care and adult cardiology. She is also a Certified Heart Failure Nurse through the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses. She works casually as a nurse practitioner in the Nebraska Methodist Health System in Omaha.

Professional Service/Recognition/Charitable Work

Dr. Whitmire’s professional activities include serving as President (2023-2024), Director, Secretary for the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses; President of Nebraska Nurse Practitioners for 2 terms, and previously served as a committee chair for the Legislative Committee from 2013-2015; and President for Sigma Tau Tau Chapter. She volunteers with the Nebraska Methodist College Mobile Diabetes Center. 

Dr. Whitmire was the recipient of the AANP State Award for Excellence-Advocate in 2024. She was named a Nebraska Methodist College Distinguished Educator in May 2023. She received the Star Award for contributions to Nursing from Sigma Tau Tau Chapter in 2020. She was a Ruth Berggren Elliott Master Teacher Award Nominee in 2018 and 2020. She was named a Nebraska Action Coalition's 40 under 40 award winner in 2012
