Admissions Written Statement Prompts

Listed below are the various Written Statement Prompts for each of Nebraska Methodist College’s academic programs. Please draft your written statement using the prompt outlined for your program of interest.   Completed Written Statements should be submitted via email to admissions@methodistcollege.edu.   Please include your first and last name on all documents submitted.

General Written Statement Prompt

The following Written Statement prompt should be used when applying to the following programs: LPN TO BSN, RN to BSN, Physical Therapist Assistant, Respiratory Care, Surgical Technology, and Healthcare Management.

Please develop a thoughtful and organized response to the questions below. Your response should be approximately two paragraphs for each question. The admissions committee is looking for responses that are not only well supported but that also use appropriate style and grammar. Be sure to include your name and program on the document itself. You may attach the responses to an email sent to the Admissions office at admissions@methodistcollege.edu.

When drafting your written statement, please cite any sources using APA format if applicable. Also know that instances of plagiarism within an applicant's written statement will disqualify them for acceptance to Nebraska Methodist College due to the College's commitment to academic integrity and stringent plagiarism policies.

  1. An NMC graduate is an educated citizen who exhibits breadth of learning through the liberal arts and sciences traditions in concert with professional education. Our goal as an institution is that graduates of NMC will be able to articulate and demonstrate growth in the following areas: as reflective individuals, as effective communicators, and as change agents.
    Please first address what or who has influenced your decision to pursue a career in healthcare?
  2. Reflective Individual: A reflective individual consistently uses logic and critical thinking in all aspects of life. Select one of the following classes that you have taken: English Composition, Literature, History, Government, Psychology, or Sociology.
    Share what was most interesting to you in this class. How might you apply what you learned to the healthcare field? If you do not have recent classes to reflect upon, you may reflect on a personal experience that you had and how what you learned from the experience can be applied to healthcare.
  3. Effective Communicator: Effective communicators express their ideas through talking, non-verbal communication, writing, and sometimes speaking languages other than English.
    Describe the type of communication listed above you feel most comfortable using. Give a specific example of a time when you exhibited strong communication skills and what the result was of this communication. For example, did you resolve a problem, put someone at ease, or help someone understand a complicated situation?
  4. Change Agent: One of the goals of our undergraduate education is to assist students in becoming agents of change. We create positive change when we work effectively in groups and bring individuals together for a common purpose. These skills are challenging and require patience and practice.
    Describe an experience you have had as a member of a group. Select a particular situation when a problem arose in that group and write about how you responded to it. You may select an experience that went well or one that you wish you could "do over."
  5. Please address any grades of D's or F's listed on your transcripts. Also, please address withdrawals or other discrepancies on your transcripts. If you do not have any D's, F's or W's please respond: Not Applicable.

Written Statement - Traditional BSN

Please develop a thoughtful and organized response to the questions below. Your response should be approximately two paragraphs for each question. The admissions committee is looking for responses that are not only well supported but that also use appropriate style and grammar. Be sure to include your name and program on the document itself. You may attach the responses to an email sent to the Admissions office at admissions@methodistcollege.edu.

  1. Please share what or who has influenced your decision to pursue your Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  2. Describe any special skills or traits you possess that will help ensure your success in a challenging Nursing curriculum.
  3. Please address any grades of D's or F's listed on your transcripts.  Also, please address withdrawals or other discrepancies on your transcripts. If you do not have any D's, F's or W's please respond: Not Applicable.

Written Statement - Rad Tech

For students applying to Imaging Sciences, BS, or Radiologic Technology, AS.

Please develop a thoughtful and organized response to each of the numbered prompts below. The admissions committee is looking for responses that are well supported and use appropriate style and grammar.

Your complete statement should not exceed 1,000 words and should use APA formatting and citations where applicable. You may attach your statement to an email and submit it to the Admissions Office at admissions@methodistcollege.edu.

Instances of plagiarism within an applicant's written statement will disqualify them for acceptance to Nebraska Methodist College due to the College's commitment to academic integrity and stringent plagiarism policies.

  1. Please address what or who has influenced your decision to pursue a career in healthcare.
  2. Describe the skills, job duties and types of patient exams you will be expected to perform as a radiologic technologist.
  3. If you have job shadowed in radiologic technology, tell us about that experience and how it confirmed that this is the right career choice for you. If you have not shadowed, please respond: Not Applicable.
  4. An NMC graduate is an educated citizen who exhibits breadth of learning through the liberal arts and sciences traditions in concert with professional education. Our goal as an institution is that graduates of NMC will be able to articulate and demonstrate growth in the following areas: as reflective individuals, as effective communicators and as change agents. Considering the educated citizen goals, describe how you would envision using these characteristics as a radiologic technologist.
  5. Provide an example of a difficult situation or dilemma and describe how you demonstrated resilience and maintained a positive attitude during this time.
  6. Outline the steps you will take to ensure your success in this academically rigorous and time-intensive program.  Specifically discuss how you will balance other roles and responsibilities in your life during this time.  Please consider addressing relationships, employment, financial obligations and any additional priorities in your response.
  7. Describe your support system and outline specific areas you anticipate needing support in.  Briefly outline a plan for obtaining that support.
  8. Address any D's F's, W's or other discrepancies on your transcripts.  If you do not have any D's, F's or W's please respond:  Not Applicable. 

Written Statement - Sonography

For students applying to Diagnostic Medical Sonography, BS; Multispecialty Sonography, AS; or Cardiovascular Sonography, AS.

Please develop a thoughtful and organized response to each of the numbered prompts below. Use this as a chance to let the admissions committee get to know you, what your motivation to become a sonographer is, and what excites you to be a part of the field of diagnostic medical sonography.

The admissions committee is looking for responses that are well supported and use appropriate style and grammar.

Your complete statement should not exceed 1,000 words. If you use any references in the following answers, it is expected that you follow APA formatting guidelines. You may attach your statement to an email and submit it to the Admissions Office at admissions@methodistcollege.edu.

  3. Provide an example of a difficult situation or dilemma and describe how you demonstrated resilience.
  4. How would you explain the field of sonography (Cardiovascular or Multispecialty/Diagnostic Medical Sonography based on the program to which you are applying) to a family friend not in the health care field?
  5. You are working on a group project and one of the members wants to approach the project drastically different from your own ideas. How do you proceed?
  6. Outline the steps you will take to ensure your success in this academically rigorous and time-intensive program. Specifically discuss how you will balance other roles and responsibilities in your life during this time. Please consider addressing relationships, employment, financial obligations and any additional priorities in your response.
  7. If you have job shadowed in sonography, tell us about that experience and how it confirmed that this is the right career choice for you. If you have not shadowed, please respond: Not Applicable.
  8. Address any and all D's, F's, W's or other discrepancies on your transcripts. If you do not have any D's, F's or W's please respond: Not Applicable.

Written Statement - DNP

Please develop a thoughtful and organized response. Your response should be approximately 250-400 words using APA format and citations where applicable. The Written Statement must be received by the application deadline.

Written Statement - EdD

Please develop a thoughtful and organized response to the questions below. The admissions committee is looking for responses that are not only well supported but that also use appropriate style and grammar.

Each question response should be approximately 250-400 words using APA format and citations where applicable. Also know that instances of plagiarism within an applicant’s personal statement will disqualify them for acceptance to Nebraska Methodist College due to the College’s commitment to academic integrity and stringent plagiarism policies. Be sure to include your name and program on the document itself.

  1. Describe your role aspirations and what you expect to derive from your doctoral studies at Nebraska Methodist College.
  2. What impact should graduates of the EdD program have on the delivery and scope of healthcare in your community and in the United States?

Written Statement - MSN & RN to MSN

Our goal is for NMC graduate students to articulate and demonstrate growth through written communication, collaboration, and synthesis of knowledge.

Your statement should be substantial and professionally written including the appropriate formatting and grammar. Each response should be two to three paragraphs. When drafting your written statement, please cite any sources using APA format if applicable. Also, know that instances of plagiarism within an applicant's written statement will disqualify them for acceptance to Nebraska Methodist College due to the College's commitment to academic integrity and stringent plagiarism policies.

Written Statements should be submitted to: admissions@methodistcollege.edu for review. Should a statement not be to our standards you will be asked to review your work.

The focus for your statement is to address the following questions:

  1. Please describe your future goals as it pertains to your acceptance into the Master of Science in Nursing Program with your specific track in mind (Executive, Educator or Informatics). What do you hope to achieve with your new degree?
  2. Here at Nebraska Methodist College, we pride ourselves on teaching "The Meaning of Care," and challenge our students to become educated citizens who create positive and sustainable change in our community and beyond. Describe what you believe will be the change you contribute as a result of earning a Master of Nursing degree from Nebraska Methodist College.
  3. How will you prepare yourself to be successful in an online graduate program?

Written Statement - Master of Business Administration in Healthcare

Our goal is for Nebraska Methodist College graduate students to articulate and demonstrate growth through written communication, collaboration, and synthesis of knowledge. 

Your written statement should be professionally written including the appropriate formatting and grammar. When drafting your written statement, please cite any sources using APA formatting guidelines. Your answers should each be 2-3 paragraphs in length. 

Also, know that instances of plagiarism within an applicant's written statement will disqualify them from acceptance to Nebraska Methodist College due to the College's commitment to academic integrity and stringent plagiarism policies.  

  1. Describe your personal and/or work experience as it pertains to your motivation for pursuing Nebraska Methodist College's Master of Business Administration in Healthcare program. What do you hope to achieve with your new degree?  
  2.
