General Background
Dr. Sharma has more than two decades of experience in Higher Education. During her professional journey, she has had the opportunity to serve as a researcher, administrator, and educator. Her postdoctoral experience at Nebraska Medicine included conducting research that examined the role of bHLH transcription factors in retinal development. She cloned NeuroD cDNA from rat and primate retina and mapped the temporal and spatial aspects of NeuroD expression in the developing rat retina. Additionally, Dr. Sharma served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Vision Sciences in the School of Optometry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where her cataract research focused on D-Crystalline degradation and the association of its fragments with water-soluble high-molecular-weight (WS-HMW) proteins.
Since 2005, Dr. Sharma has been teaching science courses at Nebraska Methodist College, where she has dedicated her career to fostering critical thinking and implementing innovative methods essential for students pursuing healthcare careers. Passionate about helping students understand the interconnectivity of science courses with their professional fields, Dr. Sharma emphasizes how these subjects are foundational to their future roles. With a deep commitment to student success, she is dedicated to motivating the next generation of healthcare professionals.
