General Background
Dr. Whitmire is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse-Nurse Practitioner. She has experience in critical care and adult cardiology. She is also a Certified Heart Failure Nurse through the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses. She works casually as a nurse practitioner in the Nebraska Methodist Health System in Omaha

Tara's professional activities include serving as President of Nebraska Nurse Practitioners for 2 terms, and previously served as a committee chair for the Legislative Committee from 2013-2015; Director, Secretary and President-Elect for the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses; and President for Sigma Tau Tau Chapter. She volunteers with the Nebraska Methodist College Mobile Diabetes Center. Tara was the recipient of the Star Award for contributions to Nursing from Sigma Tau Tau Chapter in 2020. She was a Ruth Berggren Elliott Master Teacher Award Nominee in 2018 and 2020. She was named a Nebraska Action Coalition's 40 under 40 award winner in 2012
