Dr. Hunter has had a very diverse career as a health/fitness professional. During his tenure as Manager of Wellness Services (2007-2016), Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) was a four-peat Platinum Well Workplace Award recipient through WELCOA. An independent analysis of BCBSNE's wellness program by outside health promotion experts revealed an ROI of $2.67 to $1. His department also consulted with BCBSNE’s employer groups and assisted them in developing data-driven, results-oriented wellness programs. This consultative approach was very effective and helped more than 300 Nebraska-based worksites, ranging in size from 10-40,000+ employees, to offer cost-efficient, evidence-based wellness solutions to their employees.From 2001-2005, he directed Fremont Area Medical Center’s employee and community health/wellness initiatives. In that role, he developed a comprehensive employee wellness program that resulted in a 6.9%, 22%, and 21% reduction in health care costs, workers’ compensation claims, and on-the-job injuries, respectively, after one year of operation. In addition, he chaired the Community Health Action Team (CHAT), which coordinated the annual Health Tracks event, which offered low-cost and free medical services/screenings to adults and children living in Dodge County, NE. Each year, this community health fair attracted approximately 2000 participants. He worked at Immanuel Medical Center (IMC) In Omaha, NE from 1990-2000 and directed outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation/Sports Medicine programs; developed an award-winning employee wellness program; managed a medical-fitness center; and served as clinical exercise physiologist/interim coordinator for the Dr. Dean Ornish Heart Disease Reversal Program. He also directed IMC’s fitness management services, which staffed and operated onsite wellness centers for his corporate clients. He was also an Adjunct Faculty member in the Exercise Science Department at the University of Nebraska at Omaha from 1996-1999.
From 1987-1989, he coordinated the state of Nebraska’s wellness program for 16,000+ employees. And, from 1980-1987, he was Director of Corporate Fitness at InterNorth, Inc., and managed its 28,000 sq. ft., Omaha-based exercise facility for 2000+ employees, their families, and retirees.
