Dr. Kniewel has been at Nebraska Methodist College since 2004. She has taught critical care nursing concepts for several years in the undergraduate nursing program and has taught several courses in the graduate nursing program. She is now the MSN Core Coordinator of the core courses in statistics, research, and evidence-based practice.
Dr. Kniewel has published in the areas of online learning and student-centered teaching strategies. She was a major contributor in Concept Methodology for the Web in Ward & Hisley's Maternal Child Nursing Care: Optimizing Outcomes for Mothers, Children & Families and the test bank for Ignatavicius and Workman's Medical-Surgical Nursing: Concepts for Interprofessional; Collaborative Care (9th ed.). She has presented at regional and national conferences on research related to student-centered teaching strategies, such as team-based learning.

Dr. Kniewel is a member in the Tau Tau chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. She is an active member of the Doctoral Advisory Board and the Alumni Advisory Board at Nebraska Methodist College.
