I began my nursing career in 2002 when I became a certified nursing assistant in high school. As I transitioned into college and worked in various capacities in long term care, outpatient psychiatric care, and acute care I knew I was destined to become a nurse. In 2011, I went back to nursing school as a second degree seeker and obtained my RN. My primary background has been oncology, speciality medicine, and infusion. I graduated with my Masters degree in nursing in 2015 from the University of Oklahoma and became a board certified advanced practice nurse, a clinical nurse specialist. I worked for the University of Oklahoma College of Nursing as a CNS and oncology research assistant. In 2015-2019 I was a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for Bon Secours Health System in Newport News, Virginia and served on their executive leadership team at Mary Immaculate Hospital over the oncology & medical surgical floors. There I began educating and mentoring CNS’s at Old Dominion University graduate school of nursing. I relocated to Omaha, Nebraska in late spring of 2019 and began working as a clinical adjunct for the NMC DNP program in December 2019. I also began working at Nebraska Western Iowa Health Care System under the nursing education department as the program director developing the first Post Baccalaureate Nurse Residency program for the Omaha VA medical center in Spring 2020 and still serve as the clinical coordinator for the RN transition to practice residency program part time. I am currently transitioning into my full time role as an assistant professor at NMC in the DNP program.
