Homecoming and Alumni Reunion Festivities Fill the Schedule This Week
- Date: October 23, 2017
Omaha, Neb. (Oct. 23, 2017) - Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) will honor alumni this week during Homecoming, Oct. 24 - 27. This year's theme, "Innovative Past Illuminates a Bright Future," showcases the institution's heritage while acknowledging its continued evolution to meet the demands of an ever-changing healthcare market.
"I'm honored to be presiding over what I truly believe will be an incredible moment in our institution's storied history," said Dr. Deb Carlson, president and CEO of Nebraska Methodist College. "We like to think of this as Year One of the next 125 years, and the theme of Homecoming Week speaks to these exciting possibilities. We plan to honor those who have used their experience at the college to change lives for the better while giving a sneak preview of where we expect to be in the coming years."
Homecoming Week events include:
- Oct. 24 - Alumni Campfire and Cookout at Vala's Pumpkin Patch - All faculty, staff, current and former students and their families are invited to roast S'mores and hot dogs at the campfire and experience everything Vala's has to offer (Vala's Paid Admission required).
- Oct. 27 - 50-Year Honor Brunch - The class of 1967 gathers on campus for a celebratory meal.
- Oct. 27 - Reunion Dinner and Casino Night - Back by popular demand, cocktails and dinner at DC Centre will be followed by a night of Casino games.
Homecoming Reunion Dinner will also feature a program dedicated to this year's featured Honorary Alumni and Horizon Award Winners, and 2017's Honorary Alumni is a name that will be quite familiar to the Nebraska Methodist Health System (NMHS) community.
Spencer Stevens, former NMC board member, and current chairman of Nebraska Methodist Hospital Board, is this year's honored guest, and for good reason.
"Mr. Stevens has demonstrated excellence and farsightedness in the role of chairman," said Angela Heesacker-Smith, director of Alumni Engagement at NMC. "But it's his dedication to education that will receive particular praise at the Alumni Dinner. Mr. Stevens has been a staunch advocate of the college during his tenure as chairman, and his position as Honorary Alumni is a fitting honor for his legacy of promoting healthcare education to the community."
