Pamela Franks, BSN, RN began her international career when she and her husband moved to Guatemala, Central America. During their five year stay, she helped lead the medical outreach of a large Christian organization and planned medical clinics into remote parts of the country. Pam has worked as an RN here in Omaha, NE for 20 years. Part of her nursing career involves educating healthcare professionals on cultural competence and on the many people groups living in Nebraska. She speaks regularly in Omaha and in surrounding cities teaching physicians, nurses and clinic staff. While in Omaha, Pam developed and led a program called Friendship Partners. For 12 years, this program helped American families and individuals befriend newly arriving international students as they transitioned into their new surroundings. During these years she also led many mission teams to different parts of the world. She has assisted refugees from Somalia, Sudan, Burundi, Bhutan and Burma on multiple levels. She is highly respected in the international community. Realizing refugees were her passion, she started a Christian non-profit organization in 2009 called Embrace the Nations. In addition to everyday hands-on work within the refugee communities, Pam's heart is to see the public become better educated about these most recent arrivals to the community. In 2011 Pam conducted refugee awareness training for 800 Omaha police officers. She continues to speak to healthcare professionals and has spoken at healthcare conferences and spends time instructing nursing and medical students. Pam works alongside other service organizations to help equip refugees to reach their full potential.
