Course Description


Purpose Statement: This program will provide current information and evidence-based guidelines that will enhance clinical and professional practices related to the care of patients with pulmonary disease.

Course Objectives:  

· Review current guidelines on the management of pulmonary hypertension.

· Examine challenges present in pulmonary consults using a case study approach.

· Discuss the use of evidence for palliative care as it relates to patient care.

· Explore the advantages and impact of navigational bronchoscopy procedures.

· Identify communications strategies beneficial to the elderly patient population.

· Describe ways to promote smoking cessation with patients.

Tammy Wichman, MD is an Associate Professor at Creighton University School of Medicine, the Chief of Pulmonary Critical Care Sleep Medicine, Director of Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic Creighton University Medical Center and a Researcher in Pulmonary Hypertension.

Lee Morrow, MD, MSc is an Associate Professor of medicine at Creighton University Medical Center. Dr. Morrow is an NIH-funded researcher who specializes in the evaluation of intensive care unit outcomes.

Helen Sorenson, MA, RRT, FAARC is an Associate Professor in the Department of Respiratory Care at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, has a Masters in Social Gerontology from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and has served as a respiratory therapist for 30 years.

Chris Shehan, MD is board certified in both internal medicine and pulmonology and practices at Methodist Hospital and Midwest Pulmonary Critical Care, P.C., in Omaha.

Lisa Fuchs, MHA, RRT, CTTS is the Director of Clinical Education Respiratory Program at Nebraska Methodist College and Tobacco Treatment Specialist.
