Nurses preparing to take the CPAN or CAPA certification exam or nurses looking for a comprehensive review of Perianesthesia standards of care.

Purpose Statement: To provide a comprehensive review of perianesthesia standards of care to prepare participants to take the CPAN/CAPA Certification Exam.
Participants will be able to:
- State the differences between the CPAN and CAPA certifications.
- Identify the usefulness of critical thinking for taking the CPAN and CAPA certification exams.
- Distinguish between the types anesthetic agents, and other medications, and anesthesia related symptom management.
- Discuss the unique needs of special populations of patients.
- Identify the ASPAN Standards of Care as supported evidence in care of the perioperative patient.
- Prepare for the certification exam by active participation in practice questions and discussion.

Gail Boston, MSN, RN-BC, CCRN has 35 years experience in Medical Surgical, Critical Care and Perioperative Nursing.
Brittany Kauffman, BSN, RN, CPAN has been a Registered Nurse for over 10 years and has worked in the PACU for 7 years.
Susanna Beaudin, BSN, RN, CPAN has been a Registered Nurse for over 18 years and is a nurse coordinator in the PACU.
