Course DescriptionCourse Description

To enable the learner to develop their knowledge and skills in thinking like a manager, setting clear expectation regarding performance, behavior, and attendance,coaching employees when they can't meet expectations, disciplining employees when they won't meet expectations, motivating employees, getting employees to take initiative, and conducting performance evaluations that get results.

Participants will be able to:

  • Recognize that organizations are essentially networks of relationships and that work, consequently, is a social activity.
  • Identify the many roles that managers must assume as part of their work.
  • Explain strategies that support employee development that enables them to do what needs to be done every day to make the organization great.
  • Describe that the best way to gain and keep someone's cooperation is to persuade him or her that collaborating with you will lead to positive outcomes.
  • Describe strategies that empower employees or encourage ownership.
  • Discuss the significant benefits to organizations that invest the time and energy to motivate employees.
  • State how to develop employees who achieve or exceed performance expectations.
  • Employ strategies that instill an importance of cooperation, team spirit and respect with one another.
  • Construct and implement performance evaluations that will motivate employees by explaining why it is an invaluable management tool.
  • Relate employee performance to the goals of your organization and department.
  • Determine fair compensation and rewards.
  • Give employees detailed and objective feedback regarding their performance.
  • Identify employee development needs (e.g., training, succession planning, etc.).
  • Identify the seven most common types of difficult employees.
  • Discuss different ways to communicate with each type of difficult employee.
