Purpose Statement: The purpose of this program is to enhance health professionals' skills in caring for women in labor and their support person.
Participant will be able to:
|• Analyze the nurses' impact on maternal and neonatal outcomes and on maternal satisfaction.|
|• Describe the role of the nurse in promoting physiological labor and birth.|
|• Evaluate intrapartum practices according to standards of evidence-based care.|
|• List the components of a safe and supportive birth environment.|
|• Practice a wide variety of nonpharmacologic labor support techniques which both enhance labor and decrease pain.|
|• Adopt evidence-based strategies for supporting a laboring woman during second stage.|
|• Describe effective practices to promote first attachment and exclusive breast milk feeding.|
|• Identify strategies to overcome barriers to change.|
