Purpose Statement: This two-day course is designed to prepare nurses for the certification examination and is an opportunity to increase knowledge and assessment skills related to emergency nursing.
Participants will be able to:
- Review specific study tips for the CEN exam.
- Discuss the care of patients with emergencies involving shock and other medical emergencies.
- Describe the professional issues related to the care of the patient requiring emergency care.
- Discuss the care of patients with emergencies involving major body systems.
- Discuss the care of patients presenting to the ED with maxillofacial emergencies.
- Describe the care of women involving obstetric & gynecological emergencies.

Pat Clutter, RN, MEd, CEN, FAEN has been a registered nurse working in the ED in a variety of capacities since 1974. She currently works PRN at the "stretcher-side", works as a "ship nurse," lectures for Med ED, and lectures independently. She is active in the ENA at the local, state, and national levels; has lectured at ENA national and state conventions and is a JEN editor. She has published in professional nursing journals and has lectured on a wide variety of topics. In 2005, Pat was one of 39 active and 2 honorary emergency nurses nationwide inducted into the newly formed Academy of Emergency Nursing. Pat took the CEN exam in 1980 when it was first offered and has maintained it ever since.
