Target Audience
Persons in interested in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or a Certified Patient Assistant (CPA).
Cost
Cost is $480
- A course textbook is optional for the nursing assistant class and is not included in the above cost. You can either purchase the text from the NMC Bookstore, or you may also arrange to borrow a copy through the course instructor for the duration of the class.
- BLS Healthcare Provider (CPR) is included in the price of the course.
- Includes 8-16 hours of clinical opportunities, subject to availability.
Course Description
Purpose Statement: To provide instruction for understanding the role and scope of work of the nursing assistant.
Course Objectives:
- 1. Care for all types of patient, client, residents needs, with a special emphasis on the older adult.
2. Identify the physical and emotional aspects of aging adults, and help all persons achieve and maintain their optimal level of well-being.
3. Demonstrates job responsibilities of a nursing assistant by effective communication, implementing safety precautions, and understanding emergency care.
The course is designed to provide sufficient material and basic training for nursing assistants who are interested in working in Assisted Living, nursing facilities, and intermediate care facilities for the mentally handicapped (Nebraska Health Care Association, Inc. 2010).
Course Requirements:
- Minimum age to enroll in course is 16.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Good physical health and the ability to lift 50 pounds (a physician's release may be required in certain situations).
- Required to complete a health history form and to schedule an appointment with campus health. The appointment will be a brief screening and evaluation of immunizations. There is a reduced rate for immunizations received by Campus Health for students who are not up-to-date on their vaccinations. A TB skin test is also required and will be administered by Campus Health.
Dress Requirements:
- Students are required to have a second hand watch.

Scrubs are required and may be a prescribed color/style.

This course is a minimum of 76 hours of classroom, skills and competency training with or without hands-on clinical opportunities.
Syllabus and course schedule are provided to the student on the first day of the course. Clinical opportunities are subject to availability.

Participants are provided with content and hands-on experience, which prepares the student to sit for the state licensing exam. No credits are offered for this program, but students will receive a certificate of completion. Register for this Class
