The next session of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Courses for the Medical Professional begins in October.
(OMAHA) - Nebraska Methodist College has seen great success in offering a new series of online, non-credit spreadsheet courses designed for healthcare professionals.
"Professionals in the healthcare field deal with unique data, such as patient arrival times, infection rates and insurance coverage, and that information can be present its challenges when collecting and analyzing it for reporting," said Jillian Plymesser, co-director of Professional Development at Nebraska Methodist College.
"We were seeing a need for nurses, support staff and even physicians to be more skilled with healthcare specific knowledge in Microsoft Excel."
NMC Professional Developmentt designed the series of courses to accommodate the busy lifestyles of healthcare professionals, yet still allow time for a comprehensive learning experience . The courses are four weeks in length to allow time for application, reflection and confidence in your skills. All coursework is done online so you can access courses at any time of the day and from anywhere with Internet access.
The series is split into three levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Students do not need to take each course in succession and they may sign up for the course(s) that fit their current skill level. The curriculum cover basic techniques like text alignment and font color to more advanced knowledge of pivot tables, formulas and macro skills.
After the first summer session, more than 100 students have successfully completed the program with great reviews of the content and delivery.
"Great course and I very much liked the delivery," said one student who recently completed the course. "I liked how there was a video component to show you how to complete the homework tasks in case you could not figure it out on your own. It helped reenforce what we learned."
The courses also qualify for the Methodist Health System tuition assistance program for MHS employees.
"We are thrilled with the outcomes of this course so far," says Plymesser. "Employees of our own health system and even some of our current NMC students feel more prepared and ready to do their jobs successfully. That's what it's all about."
