For the second year in a row, Nebraska Methodist College will host a health fair for Omaha's Minne Lusa Elementary.  A variety of community organizations will be on hand to promote wellness and offer an array of fun and exciting activities to students and their families.

Omaha, Nebraska- Students of Minne Lusa Elementary are invited to take part in the 2nd Annual Community Health Fair on Tuesday, April 21 from 5-7 P.M.

Hosted by Nebraska Methodist College, this event is designed to act as an educational resource for families and provide attendees with games, food and an assortment of fun, educational interactions with local healthcare institutions and community groups.

Andrea Staton, Registered Nurse at Minne Lusa Elementary School, was an integral part of the event last year, and as a result, she got to witness firsthand how beneficial the program was to those who took part.  Now ready to welcome students in for the second year in a row, she had this to say about the program:

"Last year's Health Fair was a huge success for our students, families and community.  We expect this to be another outstanding opportunity for our school."

In addition to receiving health screenings for things like blood pressure, BMI, cholesterol and more, Minne Lusa students can take advantage of a number of fun activities designed for them and their families.  Here's a sample of what visitors can expect from this year's Health Fair:

  • Complimentary food and drinks from Hy-Vee, Walmart, Rotella's Bakery, Garden Café and more

  • Raffle prizes and free giveaways

  • Get to know the Omaha Fire and Police Departments

  • Meet the stars of the Creighton Basketball team

  • Free massages

  • Soccer

  • Learn about health from the NMC Mobile Diabetes Center, Creighton University, the Douglas County Health Department and more

The health fair is expecting a whopping 400 guests this year thanks in part to the success of last year's program.  The educational nature of the event ensures that children will receive the vital screening services they need to lead a healthy lifestyle from an early age, while the numerous games and activities available will ensure no one goes home without having a good time.

"Our primary goal behind the health fair is to offer health-related education and health screenings and provide a healthy meal for the students and their families," said Rebecca Schneider, health fair volunteer and Bachelor of Science of Nursing student at Nebraska Methodist College.  "We can't wait to see what kind of a turnout we get this year.  Last year's event was such a humbling experience to see how our work could positively impact the Minne Lusa community."

Persons from around Omaha can show their support by dropping off food and toy donations to Nebraska Methodist College's Student Center, located on the Josie Harper campus on 87th and Dodge.
