Elbracht, Strootman Honored by March of Dimes

nebraska Methodist college Jenny Elbracht, assistant professor at NMC was honored by the March of Dimes.

OMAHA, Neb. - The Nebraska Chapter of the March of Dimes and Methodist Health System presented Excellence in Nursing awards to 140 Nebraska and Southwest Iowa nurses for their dedication to the nursing profession and quality patient outcomes.

Nurses were nominated by individuals who wished to recognize a nurse based on their knowledge, leadership and contributions in the nursing field . All are said to have positively impacted the lives of students, colleagues, patients and the community as a whole.

Nebraska Methodist College nurses recognized with Excellence in Nursing were: Jenny Elbracht, assistant professor, and graduating nursing student Jessica Strootman. 

Excerpt from Jenny Elbracht's Nomination Letter

Jenny Elbracht is an outstanding faculty member at Nebraska Methodist College. Jenny teaches beginning level information to nursing students in the classroom and clinical area. Her students indicate that she is an expert in her field of nursing as well as a dedicated educator showing genuine interest in their progression throughout the nursing program.

Over the past several years Jenny has been instrumental in creating, implementing and maintaining NMC's skills and simulation labs. This particular area of nursing education requires a vast skill set ranging from teaching students to training faculty in up-to-date skills and computerized simulation.

Jenny also maintains the equipment, keeps the lab stocked with necessary supplies and orders all new items that are needed. An extension of her  responsibilities include the cultivation of community partnerships to allow other health care entities to use the skills lab and simulation equipment as well as ensure that NMC's Mobile Diabetic Unit is properly stocked for state-wide diabetic screenings.

Jessica Strootman

Jessica Strootman is currently in the Accelerated BSN program at Nebraska Methodist College. She has been on the Dean's List every semester during her tenure at NMC. She was also the recipient of the Kathryn Montgomery ACE Scholarship. Prior to nursing school, she received a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences from the University of Iowa. At the University of Iowa Clinic and Hospital, Jessica did genetic research for two years focused on infant prematurity and cleft palates.  

Jessica says she has been blessed with a brother with cerebral palsy and he is one of the most important people in her life. She has always been an active part in his life and plays a big role in helping to manage his medical care. He is her inspiration in becoming an outstanding nurse and to leave a positive impact in the medical field.
